It is hard to find someone who needs to learn the meaning of jogging. Yes, you are right. Jogging means running slowly not fast. But original jogging is different from the mean of jogging that you think. According to 'jogging - a physical fitness program for all ages' was published in 1967, original jogging means running slowly at your physical level. Suddenly I mentioned jogging because the Korean edition of jogging was published in October. The highlight of Running News issue No. 3 is as below.

  • Original Jogging - 🏃‍♀️ walking and running, it doesn't matter at all
  • 2023 Seoul Marathon - 🐦early bird registration on Dec. 8
  • How old is the peak of endurance? 👴
  • Lee Bong-Ju, 🎖️ dedicated as 2022 Korea Sports Hero

Original Jogging - 🏃‍♀️ walking and running, it doesn't matter at all

Jogging is a way of training that walking combined with running. I often heard a piece of advice from an elder runner in my late 20s. That is never stop or walk during running. But everyone doesn't have to train in only one way. Looking around, we can easily find someone who finished the race by walking and running. 3 jogging training programs(plan) are suggested at the level of runners. Plan A is the easiest one and begins with a 50m walking and a 50m running for 12 weeks program. Anyone can challenge. It is a significant reason that jogging became a popular fitness in the U.S. Olympian Jeff Galloway introduced 'Run Walk Run' in 1974. Jeff Galloway still operated his running class and help to finish runners of Disney Marathon series with Run Walk Run. I highly recommend jogging for someone who runs again after a long break and who begins to run for the first time. A challenging 12 weeks jogging plan is also a good way to start!

2023 Seoul Marathon - 🐦early bird registration on Dec. 8

After 2019 Seoul International Marathon, a Masters full-course division of Seoul Marathon hasn't been held for 3 years. The office of 2023 Seoul Marathon(the office is named 'Seoul Marathon', not 'Seoul International Marathon'. I wonder the office doesn't open a registration for foreigners) announced the race day is Mar. 19, 2023 and the early bird registration for 2023 Seoul Marathon on Dec. 8, 2022. The apparel sponsor of the race is confirmed as Adidas. It is not easy to register as an early bird, because of heavy traffic to the race website. The race course is still unveiled. The one thing is certain that Gwanghwamun, the assembly(star) area of the race is totally revamped so layout for the race also will be changed. I wish your good luck for your registration.

How old is the peak of endurance? 👴

I found an interesting topic from the Japanese running magazine 'Runners Jan. 2023 issue'. According to the research(Maximal Aerobic Power in Aging Men: Insights From a Record of 1-Hour Unaccompanied Cycling) operated in Norway, the researchers measured MAP(maximal aerobic power) by indoor cycling alone and concluded that the moment begins to drop at 47 years old. In Korea, when a baby is bone and assumed 1 year old. So Koreans' peak of endurance might be 48 years old.
The research result reminded me, one of my favorite legendary runners - Joan Benoit Samuelson, the winner of 1984 LA Olympic games women's marathon. I was searching for recent news about her. Joanie(her nickname) finished 2022 London marathon in Oct. 2022 with her daughter. Her finish record is 3 hours 20 mins 20 secs. It is not even her personal best. I think to myself 'I want to run as long as I can with a smile, like Joanie."

Lee Bong-Ju, 🎖️ dedicated as 2022 Korea Sports Hero

2 hours 7 mins 20 sec. Lee Bong-Ju(52 years old) set Korean man marathon record at 2000 Tokyo marathon. Over 20 years, his record is still unbreakable. He got an injury from TV show 'Stick together to kick' during dragging a heavy tire. His disease was diagnosed as the one of nervous systems rare diseases to make the tension of muscles disorder. He already did various treatments for his rare disease, but it still become a normal physical condition. His achievement is tremendous -  Silver medal of 1996 Atlanta Olympic games, the winner of 2001 Boston marathon, and the winner of 2007 Seoul international marathon. His accomplishment is still an inspiration for Korean runners. After 2009 national sports festival, he retired and awarded The Order of Physical Education and the Blue Dragon.
He said "The choice as 2022 Korea Sports Hero will be empowered to raise me up" at the ceremony. He recently encouraged runners of Cheonan Lee Bong-Ju marathon on the spot. I wish his good luck!
